Developing High Performance Managers at the Irish Institute of Sport
8Connect Consulting are excited to be supporting ‘the team behind the team’ at the Irish Institute of Sport. We are helping them to be more effective at “managing from the middle” which means making the transition from expert-practitioners ( in fields such as physiology, sport psychology, strength and conditioning and rehabilitation) to taking a greater leadership role in a complex and dynamic environment. In addition to managing their internal team they must lead without formal authority and influence the sports that they are serving.
How the Apter Framework helps
We’re using the Apter Emotivation framework to develop self-awareness in the managers, by becoming more conscious of their motivations and emotions. They are then given the opportunity to explore situations that they find challenging, using the framework, and to try and develop their own strategies as well as supporting each other.
The next phase, planned for early 2020, will enable them to use the same principles to better manage their stakeholders in the sports and the institute – and play their part in helping athletes Believe, Perform and Achieve in Tokyo 2020 and beyond.
